After becoming a first-time mother, Tabatha Hatfield said over and over again how "amazing" it was to give birth to her daughter.
"I lived my entire life without her and now it's hard to imagine life without her," Hatfield said.
Maxine Wilson Hatfield was born at 10:06 a.m. Wednesday as she was the first baby of the new year born at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. She is the daughter of Tabatha, 33, and Stephen Hatfield, 28, of Liscomb.
Maxine Wilson Hatfield was the first baby born of 2014 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. She was born at 10:06 a.m. Wednesday and is pictured with her parents Tabatha and Stephen Hatfield, of Liscomb.
"She was special to begin with, but this makes her a little more special," Tabatha Hatfield said.
Maxine weighed in at 5 pounds, 7.9 ounces and is 18.5 inches long.
"She's very beautiful," Stephen Hatfield said.
Unfortunately, the new parents only had about 24 hours with the little one before Maxine was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City to get a blurred cornea checked out. The parents are hopeful everything is fine and were set to go to Iowa City after Tabatha was discharged Thursday.
While dad is looking forward to going fishing with Maxine, mom already has plans to do more "girly" things.
"We are looking forward to (playing with) Barbies," Tabatha Hatfield said.
Maxine was delivered by Dr. John McCarville and assisted by nurses at the Women's Care Center.
"The staff here have been amazing," Tabatha Hatfield said.
The Hatfields were given books, clothes and a wide range of gifts by the hospital for having Baby New Year. As being the first baby born on the 100th anniversary of the hospital, the couple received 100 diapers from MMSC and a $100 savings bond from Great Western Bank.
"The generosity of the people was so nice," Tabatha Hatfield said.
Maxine was due Jan. 21 but the birth was moved up due to stress tests that revealed the baby would be better served out of the womb. A C-section was performed at MMSC Wednesday.
While Maxine is the first baby for the couple together, Stephen has a 6-year-old daughter who lives in Alabama.
