The Marshall County Board of Supervisors approved raises for six members of the county's buildings and grounds staff during a meeting Thursday.
Those staff will receive 75 cents more per hour.
Paul Zobel, director of buildings and grounds with the county, said the staff is down 70 man hours a week over the past two years and is doing more work with less people.
"I've had to give everybody more responsibility," Zobel said.
Zobel approached the supervisors with the raise request due to the increased workload of staff. The raise is good through the rest of this fiscal year, which ends June 30.
Zobel said they saved $42,300 this past year in salaries with a smaller staff and this pay increase would amount to $4,680.
"I think we have money to work with," said Supervisor Denny Grabenbauer.
Zobel took over as head of B&G last year after the supervisors fired Todd Kelley. Supervisors Chair Dave Thompson said he is pleased with how Zobel is managing his staff's workload between the upkeep of the courthouse and the jail.
"I'm very impressed with the way things are going," Thompson said.
In other action, the supervisors re-elected Thompson to serve as chair for 2014 while Deane Adams was again elected as vice chair. Thompson has spent the past year as chair of the three-member board.
"It's really an honor to represent this group as their chair," Thompson said.
