The Marshalltown Education Partnership (MEP) will host the 2014 MEP Career Fair next month at Marshalltown Community College.

Each year, MCC sets up this career fair for the MEP students from Marshalltown High School. There will be tables set up around the room for students to browse and learn about the different careers that are offered at MCC. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 4 in Dejardin Hall, room 808, Marshalltown Community College, 3700 S. Center St.

"This is one of our biggest events every year for our students," said Joan Jaimes, MEP Outreach Counselor. Jaimes and Angie Redmond, MCC Dean of Enrollment Services, plan this event every year. "We hope to get these students excited about careers and coming to MCC."

Instructors and MCC students will be available at the tables to answer any questions that students might have.

Many members in the community have been invited to come and display a career from their organization. Visitors can expect to visit booths to learn more about a variety careers, including: Buena Vista University, Iowa Workforce Development, JBS, Electro-Mechanical Systems Technology, Marshalltown Police Department, Science, Utility Technician, Fisher Controls, Art, Graphic Arts, Social Science, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Construction, Machine Trades and Sports Information and Compliance.

The Marshalltown Education Partnership is a collaboration between the Marshalltown Community School District, Marshalltown Community College and the Marshalltown business community. MEP is committed to creating a culture of support and expectation of success for Marshalltown youth.

The program offers scholarship assistance for post-secondary study at MCC to successful MHS graduates. The scholarship and MCC tuition waivers will cover up to 50 percent of the tuition to pursue a certificate, diploma, or associate degree. Currently, there are about 360 students participating in MEP at Marshalltown High School. In the spring of 2014, there will be approximately 25 students at MCC on the MEP Scholarship.
