SPORTS SHORTS: Urbandale turns back Bobcat freshmen

The Marshalltown freshman boys' basketball team was defeated at home in a make-up game Monday, falling 69-36 to Urbandale at Lenihan Intermediate School.

Austin Tullis led the Bobcats with seven points. Dayton Slifer and Sam Brintnall both scored six points, while Ben Snyder and PJ Snyder added five points apiece. Brintnall pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.

MHS is back on the court today in a road game against Dowling Catholic in West Des Moines.

Bobcat JV splits with J-Hawks, Warriors

The Marshalltown girls' junior varsity basketball team split its last two games Saturday and Monday.

The Bobcats lost to Cedar Rapids Washington, 46-33, on Saturday and then defeated Urbandale, 47-40, on Monday.

Against Cedar Rapids Washington, Ellyn Boland led a balanced attack with seven points, while Carrie Schmidt added six and Kyra Hungerford, Tabby Steffensen and Jasmine Scott all put in five points.

Two players hit double digits against the J-Hawks with Rachel Whaley's 14 points leading the way. Steffensen had 10 points, while Hungerford chipped in seven and Karli McClure and Boland both scored five.
