As Valentine's Day draws near, my heart goes out to those that find themselves in the grieving phases of losing a loved one. There are difficulties and the unlikelihood of being able to celebrate a lovers holiday while you are filled with so much hurt. For those of you in that situation I am truly sorry. And yet still I wonder if it might not help to reach out to another in the midst of the pain to let them know they are loved.
While every holiday is meant to mark the remembrance of a special occasion and while all of them are worthwhile, the one thing that runs in common through each of them is love. I have resolved for myself this year to post signs on poles much like the summertime sights of garage sale signs that simply say Happy Valentine's Day. You are loved.
But during my thinking along these lines I am also considering boxing up a bunch of Valentine's Day cards and taking them to a local nursing home to distribute to people I don't know and have never met in my life yet still honor and respect for a life well lived.
For you see it's in honor of love itself that we do many of the things we do on a daily basis. And it goes back to the old saying that love is not love until you give it away. So in hopes of feeling some love this year my plan is simple - give some love away.
