Monday

Tatum Alvarado, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging failure to appear for a pre-trial conference. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 9 a.m. on March 4 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $900 cash only.

Kauila Jared Clark, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. Previously appointed Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing is rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 28. Bond is set at $1,500 cash only.

Anthony Wayne Frederick, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a pre-trial release violation in an operating while intoxicated case. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The next court dates are: a pre-trial conference set for 1:30 p.m. on March 7 and a jury trial at 9 a.m. on March 13. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Courtney Michelle Kinnetz, 911 W. State St., made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 7. Kinnetz was released on her own recognizance.

Lisa Nauman, 1001 W. State St., made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 7. Nauman was released on her own recognizance.

Kayla Mobley, 5 N. 11th Ave., made an initial appearance on a failure to maintain control charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195, due within 30 days of today's date.

Trae William Petersen, 307 S. 10th St., made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. The charge was dropped upon proof of insurance with $60 in court costs assessed which are due within 30 days of today's date.

Christian Deane Elsberry, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today's date.

Jeffrey Ray Flowers, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 11 in Magistrate Court.

A male juvenile from Marshalltown made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Russell Dean Butters, 215 Young St., made an initial appearance through counsel, Doug Beals, on a failure to stop within an assured, clear distance charge. Beals entered an not guilty plea.

Incidents

On Saturday, Michelle Murillo, 1703 Edgebrook Drive Apt. H5, reported the theft of a wallet and contents from underneath the driver's seat in a car while parked outside Vaughn's Bar, off the alley. Estimated value of loss was $230.

Citations

On Saturday, Andrew Jay Worsfold, 105 E. Webster St., was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana.

On Thursday, Jill Marie Clark, 1513 W. Main St., was cited for operating while intoxicated-second offense.

Arrests

On Sunday, Welington Teixeira, of Ames, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-second offense (refusal.)

On Sunday, Kolton Craig Bolar, 304 Bromley St. Apt. #1, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, Ashley Renee Shockley, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.

On Saturday, Matthew Daniel Puig, of Tama, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense, open container of alcohol in motor vehicle as driver, possession of alcohol underage and driving under suspension (non-payment of fines.)

On Saturday, Jaime Nunez, 314 S. 14th Ave., was arrested for obstruction of emergency communications.

On Saturday, Silvia Marie Garcia, 112 W. Lincoln St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth.

On Saturday, Jacob Lee Catherwood, of Garwin, was arrested for possession of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana-enhanced and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth-enhanced.

On Saturday, Martin James Jamell, 1106 S. First Ave., was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

On Saturday, a car driven by Larry Lynn Olson, of Conrad, was southbound on South Center Street approaching the intersection with Olive Street when it entered the intersection on a red light and collided with a car driven by Janelle Lynn Hawk, 2203 S. Sixth St. No injuries were reported. Olson was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Olson car was estimated at $10,000 while the Hawk car received an estimated $8,000 in damage.

On Saturday, a pickup driven by Brandon Emray Price, of Newton, was southbound on South Third Avenue in the inside lane when it attempted a right turn into a gas station and collided with the side of a car driven by Scott Patrick Monroe, 1312 Summit St. Apt. D, which was also traveling south in the outside lane. No injuries were reported. Price was cited for turning from improper lane. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each.

On Saturday, a car driven by Jose Miguel Valdez, of Council Bluffs, was eastbound in the 2700 block of Lincoln Way when it collided with a pickup with a snowplow attached driven by William Joseph Levelle, of Colo, which was plowing out the driveway at 2710 Lincoln Way, and had partially entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Levelle was cited for unsafe backing on a highway and Valdez was cited for failure to have a valid driver's license and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Valdez car was estimated at $5,000 while the Levelle pickup received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

On Friday, a truck plowing the roads on Sixth Street driven by Richard Matthew Weitzell, of Le Grand, was backing up when a car driven by Christopher Paul Odom, 908 S. Second Ave., was attempting to turn left onto Sixth Street and the Weitzell truck broad-sided the Odom car. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

On Friday, a vehicle driven by Heather Lee Sliekers, of Waterloo, was westbound in the north lane in the 100 block of East Church Street when it attempted to turn left into a parking lot and collided with a car driven by Desiree Carmer, 106 S. First St. Apt. #5, which was also traveling west in the south lane. No injuries were reported. Sliekers was cited for turning from an improper lane. Damage to the Carmer car was estimated at $1,500.

On Friday, Feb. 14, a car driven by Jacob Levi Lehman, of Union, was northbound in the left lane of 300 block of South Third Avenue when it collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Lucille Lorraine Dirks, 811 Bromley St., which had stopped to make a left turn into a private lot with no lights or signal. No injuries were reported. Dirks was cited for failure to have proof of insurance and improper rear lamps. Damage to the Lehman car was estimated at $2,000 while the Dirks pickup received an estimated $250 in damage.

On Friday, Feb. 14, a pickup driven by Zachary Ray Matteson, 1221 Rolling Meadows Road, was westbound on West Olive Street when the driver lost control on the snow/ice covered roadway, entered the south ditch continuing west, struck a utility pole sheering it off that belonged to Alliant Energy, 1911 E. Anson St., and a retaining wall planter owned by Kurtis Wayne Polley, 1706 W. Olive St. No injuries were reported. Matteson was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Matteson pickup was estimated at $8,000 while the utility pole received an estimated $10,000 in damage and the Polley retaining wall an estimated $500 in damage.

On Friday, Feb. 14, a car driven by Melody Rose Hunt, 603 E. Main St., Apt. #3, was northbound on South Center Street approaching Olive Street when it entered the intersection on a red light and collided with the passenger side of a car driven by Thomas Alton Grudgings, 609 Roberts Terrace, which was traveling through the intersection on a green light. No injuries were reported. Hunt was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device and no insurance. Damage to the Hunt car was estimated at $900 while the Grudgings car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

On Friday, Feb. 14, a car driven by Catherine Roseanne Heaverlo, 112 S. Second St., was westbound on West Madison Street when, due to the road conditions, it collided with the passenger side of a vehicle driven by Susan Rae Meyer, 2803 Arnold Drive, which was turning into a business driveway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Heaverlo car was estimated at $400 while the Meyer vehicle received an estimated $1,300 in damage.

On Friday, Feb. 14, a vehicle driven by Merrill Crowell Swartz, 2213 Bittersweet Road, was southbound in the 2900 block of Second Street rounding a curve when it began sliding on the snowy roadway and crossed into the path of car driven by Jose Luis Soto-Arreazola, 1119 E. State St., and the two collided. No injuries were reported. Swartz was cited for failure to maintain control and Soto-Arreazola was cited for no valid driver's license. Damage to the both vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each.
