A trial has been rescheduled for a Marshalltown woman accused of causing serious head trauma to a child.
Rhonda Van Gorp, 54, was charged in April 2012 with child endangerment with injuries and neglect following a five-month investigation by the Marshalltown Police Department.
Police say Van Gorp was caring for a 15-month-old child at her in-home daycare, 208 N. First St., when the child was injured in early November 2011. The boy was taken to the emergency room at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with head trauma.
At a pre-trail conference Friday, Assistant Marshall County Attorney Ben Stansberry said a delay in the trial has occurred because of the many expert witnesses, many of whom are doctors, needed to review the case.
"This trial will be a battle of the experts," Stansberry said.
Van Gorp's attorney, Scott Hunter, agreed.
Stansberry also said he was re-extending a plea offer, however, the details of that offer were not made public.
District Court Judge James Ellefson set a tentative trial date for May 13.
