Eric Martinez Padilla has made great strides this school year in the second grade at Hoglan Elementary School, according to his reading teacher Anna Wolvers.

"He has become a whole new and improved kid since he walked through the doors at the beginning of the year," Wolvers said. "He's really changed his motivation to work hard."

Wolvers said an example of that was the fact he brought his homework back from home to school 25 days in a row.

Wolvers also has noticed a change in Martinez's demeanor.

"He just comes in happy now," Wolvers said. "And he's more helpful to other students."

Martinez, 8, said he likes math and playing with cars.
