Johnny Hoop, 51, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Odd Fellows Apartments, in Marshalltown, with his loving family by his side.
Memorial services for Johnny will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jennifer Daniel officiating. Public visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until services begin, where his family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Johnny's name to his family. Johnny Hoop was born on July 27, 1962, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of John and Virginia (Snyder) Hoop. A proud graduate of the MHS class of 1981, he served as a manager for the Bobcat football team and carried on that passion of sports throughout his life. After graduating from MHS, Johnny went on to Iowa State University for a few years. He was employed with his father who owned and operated the Hoop Standard at the Marshalltown Mall for a few years before he went to work at Mesquaki Casino, starting out as a dealer and working his way up to becoming a floor supervisor. Johnny was also a floor supervisor at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City. Johnny was an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and committed to their success by being a season ticket holder. He also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. He also had a passion for his grandson, Liam.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jennifer (Marshall) Fleming and Alex Hoop; one grandchild, Liam Fleming; his mother, Virginia "Jenni" Hoop; siblings: Terri (Jerry) Coughlin, Shari (Dale) Clark, and Jeff (Jackie) Hoop; four nieces: Abby (Kevin) Lingard, Emily (Matt) Clawson, Jill (Ray) Moormon, and Elise Hoop; one nephew, Travis (Cynthia) Clark; and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father John Hoop and his grandparents.
