Representatives from Staples and Radio Shack announced this week that hundreds of stores in the country will close, but there has been no comment about local impact.
Carrie McElwee, Staples director of public relations, said 225 stores will close by the end of 2015 due to a large amount of online shoppers.
She declined to say if the Marshalltown location, 27 West Berle Rd., will close or not.

Representatives from Staples and Radio Shack announced that hundreds of stores across the country will close. Representatives from both companies declined to say if the Marshalltown locations will close or remain open.
"As customers shift online, we are taking aggressive action to right-size our retail footprint," McElwee said. "We are committed to providing great service and every product businesses need whether it's in-store, online or through mobile. We don't have additional details to share on specific locations or timing."
If the location stays open, it could go through a remodel period where eight new categories of items beyond office supplies will be added.
The Staples of Marshalltown currently has signs placed outside of its doors that read "Clearance making room for thousands of new products."
Joseph C. Magnacca, Radio Shack chief executive officer, announced Tuesday in a press release, 1,100 stores in the United States will close due to low fourth quarter sales.
A Radio Shack media relations spokesperson said the locations of the closing stores will not be released at this time and more information will be shared in the future.
