Perry "Jody" Choate, 67, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at home under the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A gathering will take place prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Jody Choate was born on August 13, 1946 to Wayne and Crystal Harmon Choate in Putnam County, Missouri. Jody graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965. Jody was drafted to the United States Army from 1965 until 1967. He served in Vietnam. On July 11, 1970, Jody was united in marriage to Kitty Kouba in Tama. They made their home in Le Grand before moving to Marshalltown. Jody owned Precision Auto Body for over 25 years and semi-retired in 2011. Jody was an avid golfer and was a member of the Wandering Creek Golf Course. Jody loved all Hawkeye sports. He could fix anything and loved the outdoors and nature. Jody loved to read, especially western novels and above everything else he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 43 years, Kitty. Children: Jeff (Keely) Choate of Marshalltown, Brian (Cassel) Choate of Rochester, Minnesota and Beth (Ross) Barrett of Owatonna, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Gaige and Gavin Barrett and Audrey and Noah Choate. Siblings: Larry (Joann) Choate of Hastings, Nebraska, Garry (Bette) Choate of Marshalltown and Kathy (Mark) McFarland of Colorado. Father in law, George Kouba; mother in law, L. Doris Kouba; brother in law, Daniel (Kathy) Kouba, of Melbourne; sisters in law, Patricia Kouba, Sally (Scott) Randall, and Jennifer Kouba, all of Marshalltown; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Jody was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law Tim Kouba and step mother in law Joyce Kouba.
