David C. Hutchison, 66, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 10, 2013, at his home.
A gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be at the Ivy Hill Cemetery near Malcom at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
David was born on October 13, 1947, in Grinnell, Iowa to Claire and Rosemary Robison Hutchison. He was raised on the family farm near Malcom and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1965. During the Vietnam War he served with the U.S. Army for three years. He graduated the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and received a Master's Degree in Special Education.
David met his sweetheart, Rebecca Cram, at a local dance in Brooklyn. The couple married on March 9, 1970 in Grinnell and became the parents of four children. They resided in Marshalltown, where David worked as a Special Education Consultant for AEA-6. He had a positive impact on teachers, students and education programs in the local school district. He touched so many lives and was habitually going out of his way for others. During his spare time, he enjoyed putting his skills to work on various carpentry projects.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hutchison of Marshalltown; his children, Amy Dodd of Marshalltown, Addy Hutchison of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Marc Hutchison of Mankato, Minnesota and Michael Hutchison of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Alex Dodd and Carter Hutchison; two sisters, Pam (Earl) Kinnaird of Grinnell and JoAnne (Joe) Puls of Montezuma; and two brothers, James Hutchison of Maryville, Tennessee and John Hutchison of Rock Island, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
