The Marshall County Conservation Board announced the postponement of a trout release at Sand Lake scheduled for March 22 to April 12.
Mike Stegmann, director of the MCCB said, "After conversations with the IDNR Fisheries Bureau we felt it would be in the best interest of those in pursuit of the fish to wait until complete ice out conditions for the trout release."
With the lake still frozen over and warmer temperatures this week, the ice is beginning to thaw creating unsafe conditions, he said.
"We don't want to invite a tragedy when people are recreating, we'd rather be safe than sorry," Stegmann said.
The release now scheduled for 11 a.m. April 12 will include a mix of 2,000 Rainbow and Brook Trout. For more information please contact the Marshall County Conservation Board at 641-752-5490.
