Melanie A. Helm, 73, passed away Friday March 14th, 2014 in Washington D.C.
Melanie was born March 4th, 1941 in Marshalltown, Iowa, to John and Dorothy Helm. She graduated from MHS in 1959. She attended the University of Iowa and received a BS Medical Technology Degree in 1963. Upon graduation she moved to San Francisco where she lived until 1971 when she joined the Ship Hope (Project Hope), living aboard the medical ship in Jamaica. In 1972 she decided to settle in Washington D.C. During her career she worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Electronicilonics, retiring from the Washington Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing other cultures.
Melanie never married and had no children and is predeceased by her loving parents. She is survived only by her brother John F. Helm (Judy), of Corpus Christi, TX, and her sister Kathy Helm Dunsmoor (Ross), of Winona, MN. In addition there are numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in TX and MN as well as cousins in Iowa and Oklahoma.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Marshalltown.
