Marshalltown High School boys' track team opened the outdoor portion of its schedule with a non-scored dual meet at Newton as Corbin Miller won the 1600 meter run and the medley relay team of Ethan Crow, Jeremy Hilsabeck, Miller and Brent Cartier also brought home a first place finish.

David Freeman, of Albion, and a member of the Marshalltown Boxing club, captured the 132-pound championship in the Novice division of the Iowa Golden Gloves Tournament.

Dean A. Willis, representing the College of Engineering, was one of seven students that received recognition at the initiation banquet of Phi Kappa Phi, national scholastic honor society at Iowa State University.

For the seventh consecutive year, the MHS Mock Trial team which consisted of Kendra Kimberley, Rod Ormston, Dave Reeder, Heather Smith, Doug Shepard, Amy Lines, Roman Terrill and Mary Gourley were headed to the Iowa Mock Trial State Tournament.

BCL buried Grundy Center 98-43 at a home track meet winning 13 of 18 events as Roger Moler led the way with first place finishes in the high jump, long jump and low hurdles; Jack Zern adding wins in the 880-yard run and mile run and Todd Stevenson winning first in the 220-yard dash and high hurdles.

Desarae Ellen McColley, daughter of Lowell and Pat McColley, of Marshalltown, was inducted into the Beta Mu Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Hamilton College in Cedar Rapids.

GMG won the 3200, 800 4x100 and 4x400 runs and Danny Faught claimed the shot put and discus titles as they defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck and BCL-U-W 92-47 and -36.

MHS student Jeff Davis, author of a movie script for an English project titled "The Good, The Bad, The Dubious" along with collaborators Brian Smith and Mark Jervis utilized students, Marshalltown citizens and business people in the community as they brought the movie to life.

The BCLUW boys brought home the Grundy Center Quadrangular crown with 183 points led by Brett Bergman's victory in the shot put; Dan Shine shone in the discus; Jeremiah Feltz won the 110 meter high hurdles and Tyler Blackburn's victory in the 3200 meter run along with seven other first place finishes.

Jennifer Jones, daughter of Gary and Rita Jones, of Eldora, and a senior at Eldora-New Providence, was awarded a Goodell Scholarship in music from Iowa Wesleyan College, a four-year renewable scholarship worth $2,500 annually.
