The Marshall County Conservation Board invites the public to watch the controlled burn of portions of the prairie at the Grimes Farm, 2359 233rd St.
The evening prairie burn will be held during the week of at 7:30 p.m. April 14 on the first night weather conditions permit. Listen daily to local radio stations or contact MCCB at 641-752-5490 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to be placed on the notification list. The exact date for this program is dependent on weather conditions and will be determined on short notice.
Burning a prairie is a management tool used to restore nutrients to the soil and control invading woody plants. The scene will be spectacular as the fire lights up the night sky. The Grimes Farm is located at 2359 233rd St. which is off Highland Acres Road between Iowa Avenue and West Lincoln Way.
