Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Region 8 is offering two one-day day camps for youth completing fourth-sixth grade and one half-day camp for first-third graders in June.
Move It! will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24 at the Marshall Town Center in Marshalltown. Wound Up for Wind will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 10 at Consumers Energy in Marshalltown. Growing in the Garden is offered for first-third graders from 9 a.m. to noon June 17 at Kauffman Shelter House in State Center.
In Move It! youth will test the forces of motion as they construct a variety of vehicles such as rockets, planes, cars and boats and test them for the best designs. They will also experiment with design and weight of cars in a crash test simulation.
Wound Up for Wind will involve youth using their creativity and engineering skills to construct a wind powered boat, competing in a wind turbine design contest and learning about wind energy.
Growing in the Garden will help youth explore how farmers and gardeners help make their pizza, play the pizza game, plant a mini garden to take home and visit the Hop n' Shop grocery to learn about eating healthy. A special feature will be performing a melodrama for family members.
Registrations are requested by June 1. Registration information is available at www.extension.iastate.edu/boone/news/day-camps and at the Marshall County Extension office, 2608 South 2nd Street in Marshalltown.
The day camps are being offered in each of ISU Extension and Outreach Region 8 counties including Boone, Hardin, Marshall and Story Counties. Support is provided from Alliant Energy Foundation, Story County 4-H Foundation and each ISU Extension and Outreach county extension office.
