This time the Bobcats did the shutting out.
Putting its recent struggles in the past, the Marshalltown girls tennis team swept Des Moines Hoover 11-0 at home Tuesday.
Megan Riemenschneider, Ashley Beaty and Chloe Kuehner led the singles sweep at the Nos. 1-3 spots, each surrendering no more than three games. Riemenschneider posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Sue Win at No. 1, while Beaty won 6-1, 6-0 over Morgan Spring at No. 2. Kuehner cruised past Nejia Memic 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.
Kathleen Ferrin, Jenna Jaeckel and Samantha Tocheri added straight-set victories at the No. 4-6 spots as no match went beyond the necessary two sets.
Coming off an 11-0 loss to Ankeny Centennial, the Bobcats (1-3) had just one match victory on the season - courtesy of Jaeckel - coming into their meet with the Huskies.
Beaty and Ferrin had the most dominant doubles outing with a 6-1, 6-0 rout at No. 1. The Bobcats' No. 4 tandem of Yelitza Patricio and Immaculate Edwin earned a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Brenda Livengood and Ellen Podhajsky won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Riemenschneider and Kuehner joined up for a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 and Jaeckel and Tocheri grabbed a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 3.

"It's a good win for us but we have to keep working on our fundamentals," MHS assistant coach Blake Cutright said. "We just have to have to hit a lot of balls and get more comfortable with our strokes."
MHS boys sweep Hoover
DES MOINES - Not surrendering a single game in 11 sets, the Marshalltown boys' tennis team rolled over Des Moines Hoover 11-0.
The Bobcats (2-4) claimed all 22 necessary sets with Kalei Platt, Eric Weinberg, and Ryley Faircloth each shutting out their opponents in singles.
Platt defeated David Jordan at the No. 1 spot, while Weinberg trumped Jessie Luang at No. 4 and Faircloth cruised through Sam Rubio in the No. 5 position.
Kade Vopava (6-1, 6-4), Andrew Walker (6-3, 6-0) and Vincent Zavala-Livengood (6-0, 6-1) earned singles victories at the No. 2, 3 and 6 slots respectively.
Joe Cahill and Derek Mann blanked the Huskies' Jin Bahn and Andre'y Russell 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 doubles. Zavala-Livengood and Beau Ragland teamed up for a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top doubles spot, while Faircloth and Marcus Henze won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Brandin Chaloupek and Nick Cooper claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory as the No. 3 tandem, while MHS got a forfeit at No. 5.
The Bobcats host Southeast Polk Thursday at 4 p.m. The Rams finished second out of six squads at the Bobcat Invitational Saturday, while MHS won the last head-to-head meeting with a 5-4 win in last year's pre-substate match.
