A Marshalltown man is recovering at home after a March 30 motorcycle accident left him with multiple injuries.
The family and friends of Matt Nichols are coming together for a special fundraising event Sunday to help with his medical expenses.
Organizers of a motorcycle ride and auction hope they can raise a significant amount of money to help the 38-year-old.
The ride starts at Center Street Station in Marshalltown at 11 a.m. then heads to Old Timer, Rumors, Woody's in Albion, the Haverhill Social Club, the Gilman Tap and then back to Center Street Station. More than 100 riders have said they plan to attend the event.
His mother, Deb Nichols, appreciates the support being shown for her son.
"This is absolutely great," she said. "It's kind of overwhelming."

WHAT: Benefit motorcycle ride for Matt Nichols
WHEN: 11 a.m. Sunday
WHERE: Starts at Center Street Station, 19 N. Center St.
Matt Nichols was riding with friends in the Ames area on March 30 when the combination of a sharp curve in the road and a very windy day led him into a ditch. His motorcycle then hit a driveway entrance and he was sent flying. Nichols suffered a broken scapula, broken ribs, partially collapsed lung, torn spleen and has staples in his head. He spent nine days at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Nichols will be off work from Lennox for at least three months as he recovers.
After the ride Sunday, a live auction will be held at 4 p.m. at Center Street Station.
"They've got over 100 donations," Deb Nichols said.
A pork patty dinner for a free will offering will also be served at Center Street Station.
Cost for the ride is $10 to participate for adults with kids free. The ride is open to two wheels, four wheels or no wheels, organizers said.
Nichols said seeing her son suffer through these injuries has been tough on her.
"It still breaks your heart, no matter how old they get," she said.
