IOWA CITY - Iowa senior women's basketball player Theairra Taylor has been invited to the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx summer camp, the University of Iowa announced Tuesday.
The former Iowa Hawkeye hoopster started all 36 games for Iowa this past season and was one of five Hawkeyes to average in double-figures on the year. She averaged a career-best 12.4 points per contest and also had 104 assists and 50 steals. Taylor also grabbed 4.6 rebounds per tilt.
"I went to the Nashville overseas combine and played well," said Taylor, a native of St. Paul, Minn. "A few people there took notice and I was invited to the Lynx camp. I feel blessed to have the opportunity.
Taylor started the last 70 games of her Hawkeye career after struggling through several injuries. The Hawkeyes won 27 games this past season with Taylor in the starting lineup. She averaged 13.6 points per game in conference play this year and was fifth in the league in steals (1.9), 11th in assists (3.1) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7). She scored in double-figures in 17 of the team's last 21 games, while registering nine points twice.
"I am very happy for Theairra," said Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. "This is a great opportunity to showcase her abilities for the WNBA, and what better place to do it than your hometown?"
