NORMAL, Ill. - Northern Iowa senior pitcher Jamie Fisher garnered postseason honors for the fourth year in a row, the Missouri Valley Conference announced Wednesday.
Fisher, the former all-state hurler for two-time state champion BCLUW, was named to the all-MVC second team after three seasons of first-team all-conference selection. The 2012 Pitcher of the Year, Fisher finished her final campaign in purple in gold with a 17-14 record, a 3.16 earned run average and 136 strikeouts in 186 innings. She also recorded her first two collegiate saves.
Fisher also was one of 10 student-athletes to receive the first-ever MVC Leadership & Service Award for the spring, promoting those in good academic standing who demonstrate citizenship through sportsmanship and community service.
The Conrad native will graduate as UNI's all-time winningest pitcher with a 79-44 career record. Her 22 wins in 2013 is a school record, and her 213 strikeouts that season were second-most in program history.
Fisher suffered the loss as the fifth-seeded Panthers (28-20) were upset in the opening round of the MVC Tournament by No. 8 Missouri State (28-26) on Thursday, 4-3.
Nicole Fisher, Jamie's twin sister and occasional batterymate, wrapped up her two-year stint at UNI with a .245 batting average, 14 home runs and 28 RBIs. She was a second-team all-MVC pick in 2013 after transferring from Kirkwood Community College, where she was a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American outfielder in 2012.
