NEWTON - Morgan Van Staalduine had two goals as the Marshalltown freshman girls' soccer squad defeated Newton 4-0 on Thursday.
Van Staalduine helped MHS to a 2-0 lead, with both goals coming on assists from Macy Goecke. Goecke got into the action herself, scoring a goal to make it a 3-0 lead for MHS. The Bobcats' final tally came on an own-goal by the Newton defense.
Bobcat Boys hoops camp upcoming
Marshalltown High School coach Scott Smith will direct the Bobcat Boys Basketball Camp at Miller Middle School June 17-20.
The camp is available to boys entering grades 5-12 in the fall of the 2014-15 school year. The grades 9-12 session will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. followed by the grades 5-8 session from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
The camp will teach the fundamentals of ball handling, passing, defense, rebounding, shooting, one-on-one competition, 3-on-3 competition, 5-on-5 competition, free throw competition, hot shot competition and 3-point shooting. Cost is $40 per participant for any registration form turned in before June 10, before the cost rises to $50. Every participant will receive a camp T-shirt.
The camp staff also includes MHS assistant coaches Todd Beare, Ryan O'Neal and Matt Butler along with AGWSR coach Jason Berkey and additional Bobcat staff and former players. For more information contact Scott Smith at (641) 754-1130 ext 1232 or (641) 485-1616.
