The Central Iowa Art Association is pleased to present Summer Art Camp Sessions and Art Workshops.
Color Blast Art Camp Sessions are from June 9 to June 13. The 8:30 a.m. to noon section is for children age 5-8. The 1 to 4 p.m. section is for children ages 9-12.
Another Color Blast Art Camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 23-27 for children 8-12. The final session will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon July 7-11 for children ages 8-11.
Attendees will have a blast exploring colors and color theory by using a variety of media in two and three dimensional forms. Learn how color mixes and blends to make new colors and how colors react to each other. Understand how color can affect the mood of an artwork, room or person, and how we can use this to our advantage.
A large variety of materials will be used to help discover the joy of color in the form of collage, painting, printing, clay, tie dyeing etc. Students will learn about color and various art forms in a workshop setting, as individuals and as a collaborative group.

Linocut Printing will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 21 for ages 10+ (younger with instructor approval). This is a beginner’s printmaking class. Taught by Melissa Nelson, this class will learn how to transfer an 8x10 photo or image to a linoleum block. The image will be cut using a specialty tool and will be printed to create a unique image that can be printed multiple times.

Puppets Come ALIVE! from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23. This class is for young children ages 8+ who will learn about puppets. Taught by puppeteer Frank M. Ocasio, the children will learn history, movement and make their own puppets.
Painting with Pastels from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 for students 16 and older. Taught by Denice Peters (Iowa Pastel Society) this workshop is an introduction to pastel painting. Ages 16 and up and all skill levels are welcome. Come enjoy the advantages of working with pure pigment in a fun and laid-back environment. Peters’s work can be seen at
Flower Painting Workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30-31 for ages 14 and older. Taught by Lisa Towers, this workshop is open to all skill levels. Learn to paint the floral still life in this two-day oil painting workshop. Flowers and fruit will be provided and will end with a wine or (sparkling grape juice) and cheese critique with individualized attention. Students will be encouraged to create at least two separate paintings.
