Two men face felony charges after they were caught driving a stolen business truck full of tools into Marshalltown.
Randall Mikesell Jr., 34, of Newton, and Desmonne Hoffert, 23, of Ankeny, were arrested Monday, after police were made aware that a truck stolen from an underground cable business in Newton was driving toward Marshalltown on Lincoln Way.
Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said police followed the truck ending up on Washington Street, and when they came to a dead end, Mikesell and Hoffert jumped out and ran, Batterson said.
A deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office captured Hoffert in the parking lot of Kapaun & Brown, 1002 W. Lincoln Way. Mikesell was captured in the backyard of some houses north of Washington Street.
The tools and truck were recovered, Batterson said.
Both were charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony and interference with officials acts.
Two days before the truck theft, the two were charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony, after they pushed a cart full of groceries and a flat screen TV out of Walmart, 2802 S. Center St., without paying.
Both are being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
