HUDSON - Sophomore Madison White allowed just two hits and struck out nine over seven innings Tuesday and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck softball team beat Hudson here to advance to tonight's Class 2A Region 6 quarterfinals.
The Rebels have now won three games on the season but are 2-2 in their last four games after collecting six hits and scoring single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Nicole Adair, Hanna Christopher and Katy Thompson had two hits apiece to account for all six of the Rebel hits and Adair and Christopher also each scored a run in the win. Adair also stole two bases, while Christopher and Hayley Weber accounted for the RBIs.
White came into the game with a record of 1-19 and an earned run average of better than six runs per game but was masterful against the Pirates (10-16) in what was easily her best outing of the season.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck (3-26) will play in Conrad at 7 p.m. tonight against No. 12 BCLUW (22-9). The Comets are 3-0 against the Rebels this season, winning 13-0, 10-0 and 7-0 in NICL West Division action earlier this year.
Dike-New Hartford 5, Grundy Center 2
DIKE - Hannah Dove allowed just one earned run over six innings and the Wolverines plated four of their five runs in the fourth to advance to the Class 2A Region 6 quarterfinals Tuesday.
Anna Williams and Brooke Myers both had two hits apiece for the home team. Haley O'Connor also had two RBIs and Williams stole two bases as the Wolverines (12-15) will next face North Butler (15-8) in Allison at 7 p.m. tonight.
Dove surrendered just five hits and struck out seven with two walks in getting the win in the circle. Brynn Harberts tossed a scoreless seventh and recorded the save despiting walking the bases loaded.
Grundy Center (4-23) scored one run in the first to take an early 1-0 lead but couldn't keep the momentum. The Spartans, whose statistics were not available at press time, also scored a run in the sixth.
