AMES - Before she trades her blue for purple, Paige Van Dyk is continuing to add gold to her trophy case,
The 2014 South Tama County grad and future UNI Panther claimed the 39th PGA Junior Iowa Section Championship in the girls 16-18 division at Ames Golf and Country Club Monday and Tuesday. Van Dyk fired a 68-76 to card a 2-over-par total of 144.
Waukee's Paige Seiser and Rachele Miller of Bettendorf were three strokes back in second, while Marshalltown's Ashley Harris took 12th with a 184.
Van Dyk previously won her age division in the event in 2011 and finished second in 2012 and fourth a year ago. She birdied the first hole and made par on 13 more for her second-round tally to hold off the elite field, which included Class 5A state champ Karli Kerrigan of Ankeny and two-time state medalist Sarah McMichael of Nashua-Plainfield.
Marshalltown's Cole Davis fired a one-under 72 to claim the boys 12 and under title finishing six strokes ahead of Panora's Kolby Shackelford.
Davis turned in a first-round score of 34 and came back with a 38 in round two.
