The monthly meeting of the Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety Guild was July 1 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.
A brief business meeting was held prior to an interesting program by Laura Jochem of Crazy Redhead Quilting in Newton. Jochem presented a program on "Sew Much to Share." She shared several new patterns that are available, plus she displayed a sample of quilts from the patterns. Jochem demonstrated three of her new rulers providing several ways to use the rulers. Her shop offers classes, sells sewing machines, and has lots of different fabrics and accessories for sale. Opening a quilt shop had been a dream of Jochem's for a long time. Her store is easy to find as it is located in an old church in Newton.
Author Patience Griffin and quilt designer Cynthie Stary Drajna will be the presenters at the Aug. 6 guild meeting located at Trinity Lutheran Church with the business meeting starting at 6 p.m. "Kilts & Quilts" Trunk Show will feature quilts designed by Cynthie of Iowa Star Quilts, Traer and quilted by Marilyn Kidd of Beyond Quilting, Marshalltown for the Kilts and Quilts book series by Griffin. Griffin, formerly from Marshalltown, teamed up with Drajna and Kidd to bring to life the quilts from her fictional small town of Gandiegow, Scotland. In Gandiegow, anything can happen - love, laughter, and of course quilting. Her first book "To Scotland with Love" was just released on June 3 (Penguin). Griffin will be signing her book and sharing quilts. More wonderful quilts will be showed and displayed by Drajna. This will be a very interesting guild meeting with many great quilts and stories to hear.
The program is free to members and open to the public for a $5 admission fee. Annual dues for the guild are $25 and $12.50 for youth for our program year of June to May. Memberships are available throughout the year.
