MELBOURNE - Janet Clark barely had time to put her sash on straight before she was riding as the grand marshal of the Melbourne Mousehole Days parade Saturday.
Organizers decided to surprise the grand marshal this year and announce the honoree just before the parade.
"I'm shocked," Clark said. "I had no idea."

Clark has helped the community in many ways including through her in-home daycare she's had for 40 years. She wasn't the only local celebrity riding in the parade.
The Little Miss Melbourne, Alayna Frederick, and Mr. Melbourne, Lane Hauser, had a ball in the back of a convertible waving at the crowd. The Melbourne minor league county champion baseball team also had a float, as team members wore their medals proudly.
A group of young men made quite a stir as they rode on a float singing songs to the play of a real piano. The group called themselves Tyler and the Mousehole 5 and they sang "Don't Stop Believin'" as they made their way through downtown.
Mousehole Days continued with events planned through the day leading up to fireworks and a performance by the Exit 185 band Saturday night.
The festival concludes with a 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in the park followed by a potluck picnic.
