Cathy Ryden of the Marshalltown Swim Club set a new state record and took first place in 10-and-under division 50-meter backstroke in the AAU Regional qualifying meet with a time of 39.885 topping the old mark for the event of 40,275.

Community Y dance students of instructor Kimi Kups Benson: Jenna Garrels, Ciera Keith, Anna Carley, Lezlie Callaway, Allysa Vogel, Katie Lievens, Lindsay Murphy, Erin Grabe, Sarah Grabe and Emily Hurd honed their dance skills by participating in master dance classes at the New Dance Group in New York City.

For the first time in a number of years, the grand champion market steer at the Central Iowa Fair an Angus owned by Lisa Peterson, of Gilman, was to be auctioned in the 4-H and FFA beef sale.

In the track and field division of the Iowa Games gold medals were won by: Troy Eygabroad, 13-14-year-old 100 and 200 meter dash; Eygabroad, Grand Cleghorn, Michael Moore and Ti Long, 13-14-year-old 4 x 100 meter dash; Michelle Duder, 400 meter dash and Jill Anderson, 11-12-year-old long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 7 inches.
