I've got a lot on my mind lately and only so much space to use it - so let's make this a Tidbit Tuesday.
Fair-ly good parents: No big surprises at the Iowa State Fair during my work visit this Friday. I was kind of amazed at the amount of parents who brought 2-year-olds to the fair. They are braver than me as I saw many kids who were about done for the day already at 9 a.m. I heard one small kid at 10 a.m. riding in a wagon yelling, "I'm not having any fun!"
Shivering summer: This summer has been one of the coldest I can remember. On multiple occasions now we've had to take the 2-year-old out of the pool for shivering too much. These occasions all fell in July and August. Chattering teeth outdoors in the thick of summer, that's something I haven't seen before. Usually, by this time of the year the heat of summer has me looking forward to the fall. But with this summer it feels like we've already hit fall at times.
Still dangerous dude: Remember when I said I was scared of getting pounded on by my 2-year-old boy? Well, it's getting even scarier. Now he likes to cover me with blankets and then attacks me. It's tough on me because I don't know where he is coming from. All I can listen for is where the giggles are coming from and try to defend myself.
Metal mania: I attended the appliance recycling event Saturday in Marshalltown at the South Sixth Street softball complex. Man, some of you guys and gals really hold onto a bunch of junk. One guy had several old refrigerators that he took the event that could have been taken straight to a museum. It looked like it was well-attended. I showed up with a line of 10 vehicles waiting to dump off stuff. By the time I left, there was a line of 40 vehicles. That's a whole lot of junk.
Election time yet? Have you been able to watch 5 minutes of TV without seeing a Bruce Braley or Joni Ernst commercial lately? Not me. Man, there is plenty of money to be thrown around on this U.S. Senate campaign. We still have nearly three months left until the Nov. 4 election. Could it get even worse by then? Being a member of the media I also get emails constantly from people associated with these campaigns. So I get a double whammy went it comes to this election.
