Marjorie E. Elwood, 86, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at 10:04 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Independence Village.
Marjorie was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on May 31, 1928 to Pete and Ethel Thomas Nichols. She married John (Jack) R. Elwood February 1, 1948 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died September 13, 1984 in Peoria. She later married Luther Brindle August 13, 1998 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died September 23, 2011 in Marshalltown, Iowa.
She was also preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana (Donald) Dailey of Chillicothe, Janice (Chip) Roberts of Trivoli; one son, Patrick (Chris) Elwood of Holiday Island, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Sherri (David) Estes, Cari (Jess) Clark, Jimi (Brandy) Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, Eric (Allison) Herring, Leigh Herring; and fourteen great-grandchildren; step-children, Janet Minter of Stockton, California, Laura Brindle of Iowa City, Iowa, John Brindle of West Des Moines, Iowa and Susan (Woody) of Johnston, Iowa.
Marjorie worked for the Peoria Journal Star for 10 years as the classified ads supervisor.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Bridge and Pinochle player. Marjorie was involved with many activities at The Ember's in Marshalltown and at Independence Village.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Parkview Cemetery. Cremation rites were accorded.
