Family: I live with my son, Nathaniel. He is 6, going on 7. I have a hard time believing how fast he is growing up. He will start first grade this year. Most of the time you will find us lounging around at home ... sometimes we go to Grimes Farm. He loves going to the park ... any park.
Pets: Though we both would enjoy having a dog prancing around, dispersing fur balls all over the place, our apartment building doesn't allow pets of the furry four-legged variety. My son does have a miniature frog that resides in a small aquarium. Nathaniel has had the frog for 3.5 years, and quite frankly, I'm shocked the little guy has stuck around that long.
Hobbies and Interests: If I had more time, I would paint much more often. It is a relaxing hobby. I love to read, and not only story books. I am always looking to learn new things and continuing my education about what is happening in the world around me.
Occupation: I own and operate Solid Design, a graphic and web design business. I focus on assisting small businesses in and around Marshalltown, creating custom designs in the areas of graphic design (logos, business cards, flyers, banners, brochures, etc.) and web design (websites, ecommerce, social media, etc.)
Best part of work: The best part of my job is that I own my business. I make the decisions, and I am responsible for growth. I get to meet a lot of great people, who also own or work for small businesses.
If I could change jobs I would: I really love my business, so I'm not really sure what I would do if I could change jobs. If possible, I would love to be able to take it on the road and travel the world.
Movies: I want to be entertained, and by entertained, I mean a movie that makes me laugh. Comedy is definitely my first choice. I am a loving fan of "Star Wars" - the originals, of course. Though I could watch all of them a hundred times over again, my personal favorite is "The Return of the Jedi."
Foods: Chinese food. I love the Chinese buffet at Chef King in Marshalltown. Ocean City in Marshalltown is really good too. There is very little I won't at least try once, and rarely do I dislike it.
Advice on life: My advice would be to just live life the way one wants. Be a decent human being, treat people in a way you would want to be treated, work hard for what you want, and accept the fact that sometimes things just don't go the way we want, or expect. Life is often made out to be overcomplicated, when in reality, it could be so much simpler.
