The East Marshall boys cross country squad took four of the top 10 spots to win the Nevada Invitational with Brandon Pals leading the pack in fourth place followed by Trent Harem, fifth; Lance Steward, sixth and Carsen Kuesel, seventh.

East Marshall volleyball team swept BCLUW 15-11, 15-2 and 15-3 as Megan Rhinehart led the Mustangs with 20 assists, 9-of-10 serving, four aces and seven digs.

The West Marshall Trojans hammered Carlisle 21-0 as they grabbed 11 first downs for 228 yards with Jim Gray and Dwight Long each having an interception and Jim Bell and Kelly Sutton leading the defense with 10 tackles each.

The No. 9 ranked Marshalltown High School boys’ cross country team took the Iowa City West Invitational 45-60 as they had four runners as the top 10 finishers with Jimma Jones finishing in third place; Christian Kramer, Eric Shomo and Patrick Fink going seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, within 12 seconds of each other.

MHS freshman football players downed Fort Dodge 34-18 as Tyler Kluver led the way with 265 rushing yards on 20 carries for three touchdowns.

GMG posted another shutout as they defeated Cal-Dows 28-0 with Ryan Schulte running for 142 yards on 25 carries and Tim Mull adding 94 yards with a total offense of 355 yards for the night.

MHS boys’ cross country team finished second at the Columbus Invitational just behind the host as Dave Matthews led the way coming in second with Rob Naughton in sixth and Stu Atha finishing eighth.

Brian Hickman, 12, of Melbourne, exhibited the Reserve Champion Division 1 (130-190 pound) market lamb at the 1994 Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Exhibition.

Robby Hampton got his sore feet wrapped after students from St. Henry’s Catholic School and St. John’s High School made a pilgrimage to Living History Farms to see Pope John Paul II.

West Marshall got back on track following a loss to CMB with a 48-23 win over Albia as brothers Drake and Dalton Ferch each scored three touchdowns with Drake accumulating 290 yards rushing on 13 carries and Dalton 117 yards on seven carries.

In just the second tournament of the volleyball season, West Marshall took first place in the Heart of Iowa Conference Tournament as they defeated Ogden, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, South Hamilton, split with Madrid, Bondurant-Farrar and Gilbert in the finals.

The Ryden girls, sophomore Kathy and freshman Ann, had a big day for the MHS swim team as they won five events and helped the ‘Cats to a 95-77 win over Southeast Polk.

Wet Marshall FFA members Jacob Edler, Michael Hemesath, Ryan Pickard and Nick Vollers helped grill 280 beef patties for the student body tailgate lunch, a homecoming tradition.
