Iowa Broadcaster of the Year awarded
Todd Steinkamp, general manager and part owner of Trending Media Inc., was awarded the “Iowa Broadcaster of the Year” award at the annual Iowa Broadcasters Association Summer Convention in Des Moines, June 13.
During the July 19, 2018, tornado outbreak in Central Iowa, Steinkamp took to the air on radio stations KIX 101.1 and 1230 KFJB to inform the public of the approaching tornado. His leadership and calm voice kept Marshalltown informed and saved lives when it struck.
In the aftermath of the tornado, Steinkamp was able to keep the radio stations on the air by utilizing a backup generator and bypassing equipment that was heavily damaged during the storms. He stayed at the stations for several days making sure the radio stations remained fully operational and along with an amazing staff shared important recovery information with the public.
“The Iowa Broadcaster of the Year” is awarded to the individual who through their on-air work and or leadership role has made an impact on their stations and their community. Steinkamp more than exceeds all the criteria for the “Iowa Broadcaster of the Year” award.
