UNION — On Nov. 13, as part of World Kindness Day, the BCLUW Middle School Pay It Forward Book Club wants to spread kindness to those from the BCLUW communities that are serving in the armed forces.

The Pay It Forward book club was formed last school year after students read the book and wanted to share their thoughts about the boy in the story (Trevor) and how he planned to take on the challenge of an extra credit assignment. That challenge was to think of an idea for world change and put it into action.

“We planned this project for World Kindness Day and decided to send care packages to those currently serving in the military since it is just a few days after Veterans Day,” states club member Ainsley Geelhart.

The book club is inviting the community members to help spread the kindness.

“We are collecting items such as snack bars, candy (no chocolate), gum, envelopes, stamps, jerky, magazines, crossword puzzles & word searches, powdered drink sticks, and sunflower seeds, ” said club member Elle Schipper.

Monetary donations will help with postage to mail the packages.

“We are selling lollipops and taping a teacher to a wall to raise money for the items to put in the boxes,” Schipper said.

“Items can be sent to school with your child or dropped off at the Middle School office. The middle school students will be making cards and packing the boxes on Nov.13. So no one is left out, please contact the BCLUW Middle School with name/address of young men or women from the BCLUW area who you know is currently serving in the military,” book club advisor Denise Bonzer said.

According to the club members,a package filled with goodies and a few kind words will make a difference in the life of someone serving their country so far from home.

They remind you with a special challenge: Focus on ways you can be a kindness example! When others observe an act of kindness, they are more likely to carry out an act of kindness too!
