With 90 percent of its goal attained and 26 days remaining in the campaign, local United Way Executive Director Nancy Steveson said Wednesday the campaign is in the home stretch.

She should know.

Steveson is in her 41st year with the organization as employee and 25th as executive.

“We are extremely close to our totals at this time last year,” Steveson said. “I monitor campaigns compared to the previous year as a way of gauging success.”

In September, Steveson and campaign co-chairs Dennis Drager and Theron Schutte, kicked off the 2019 campaign by announcing a campaign goal of $780,000 – $12,000 more than 2018.

Drager is owner-operator of VCA The Vet and Schutte is the Marshalltown Community School District Superintendent.

Steveson said volunteers in all divisions have worked aggressively on the campaign which is paying dividends now.

“We are awaiting donations from Emerson employees,” Steven said. “We are expecting those donations to come within the next week. We have received the Emerson corporate donation.”

Emerson is one of Marshalltown’s largest employers.

Steveson said the campaign will take donations through Jan. 6, 2020.

She said everyone with the campaign is looking forward to the noon, Dec. 18 Final Campaign Luncheon at the Fisher Community Center.

It will be catered by Katie J’s and is sponsored by nine local financial institutions.

The organization will celebrate the conclusion of its 89th campaign.

It will recognize businesses, volunteers.

“We simply could not support the 27 organizations who rely on United Way funding the way we do without the thousands of volunteer hours donated every year,” Steveson said.
