Two dead, two injured after fatal accident on Highway 330

MELBOURNE — Two men have died as the result of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 330 south of Melbourne on Monday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Marshall County Communications Center received a report of a multi-vehicle crash in the 3000-mile of Marshalltown Boulevard (Highway 330) northbound south of Melbourne at 3:51 p.m. Deputies arrived on the scene to find three vehicles involved in the collision with several individuals injured.

CPR was started on two injured motorists. Tony Roberts, 61, of Marshalltown, was pronounced deceased on scene, and two persons were transported to the UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown. One of the persons transported, 41-year-old Samuel Luciano of Irving, Texas later, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The condition of the second person transported is unknown at this time. A fourth person was transported by air ambulance to Des Moines area hospital for advance care, and their condition is unknown.

Troopers from the Iowa State Patrol were contacted and conducted a technical crash investigation at the scene, which determined that one of the motorists was having mechanical problems. When additional motorists stopped to render assistance, the vehicle was struck by a third vehicle traveling northbound. The crash remains under investigation.

In addition to the Iowa State Patrol, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Melbourne Fire and EMS, Rhodes Fire and EMS, State Center Fire and EMS, UnityPoint Ambulance, the Marshalltown Fire Department, the Marshalltown Police Department, Baxter EMS, the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office, Iowa DOT maintenance staff, and University of Iowa AirCare Emergency Transport.
