Marshalltown man arrested for burglary Friday
On Friday at 6:56 a.m., the Marshalltown Police Department responded to 911 North Center Street after receiving a burglary in progress complaint. Upon arrival, officers discovered a burglar still on scene.
The alleged burglar was in possession of property belonging to the property owner of 911 North Center St. According to a police report, one of the homeowners found him in his garage and called law enforcement, and he was discovered to have methamphetamine, shears and a flathead screwdriver on his person at the time he was apprehended.
“The homeowner did not know him, and the defendant had no right to the property,” the complaint reads. “The defendant subsequently cut the line to the elevator while the homeowner was in the elevator to request aid.”
Mason Burdette Thomasson, age 32, of Marshalltown has been charged with second degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, possession of a controlled substance — third offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, third degree criminal mischief and outstanding arrest warrant — fifth degree criminal mischief. Thomasson was taken to the Marshall County Jail, where he was still being held as of Monday morning.
