T-R FILE PHOTO The annual Theravada Dhamma Society of Iowa Picnic is scheduled for Sunday at 2942 240th St. just southeast of Marshalltown.

The Theravada Dhamma Society of Iowa (TDSI) is inviting the general public to the annual picnic at the Yaw Nwe Dhamma Center at 2942 240th St. just southeast of Marshalltown, where one of America’s largest statues of the Buddha is located, on Sunday.

The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with the Buddha Puja Anekaja Mingala, followed by the Monk Donation Ceremony at 10 a.m., the blessing and sharing of merits to all living beings at 11 a.m. and offering lunch to the monks at 11:30 a.m. After that, the picnic itself will be held from noon to 2 p.m. with traditional Burmese dances, music and entertainment also running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
