Deputies respond to fatal crash southwest of Rhodes
RHODES — A 17-year-old male ATV driver has died after a head-on crash southwest of Rhodes on Tuesday afternoon.
At 2:21 p.m., the Marshall County Communications Center (MCCC) received a report of a head-on motor vehicle crash involving a pickup and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in the 1100-mile of 320th Street southwest of Rhodes. When Deputies arrived on the scene at 2:30 p.m., they located a 17-year-old male juvenile unconscious in the roadway.
CPR was administered on the injured operator, and he was transported to the UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown, where he later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the motor vehicle crash. The driver of the pickup, 40-year-old Jeremy Guckert of Rhodes,was not injured.
The Iowa State Patrol was contacted to conduct a technical crash investigation at the scene. The motor vehicle crash remains under investigation, and the identity of the deceased juvenile has not yet been publicly disclosed.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Iowa State Patrol, Melbourne Fire and EMS, Rhodes Fire and EMS, State Center EMS, UnityPoint Ambulance, and the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office.
