Masked machete wielder in Toledo identified, arrested
TOLEDO — The Toledo Police Department has now identified and arrested 32-year-old Anthony Reitinger as the masked man who allegedly wielded a machete around Toledo on at least two occasions last week. Reitinger is a registered sex offender after being convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in 2014.
The TPD secured an arrest warrant for Reitinger on Monday, July 29, on charges of harassment in the first degree and trespass first offense.
The department had received two calls, both on Sunday, July 21, reporting sightings of the masked machete man, now known to be Reitinger. The first sighting was at 1:16 a.m., and the second at 11:07 p.m.
One report was of the masked man on a local’s doorstep ringing the doorbell, which had been captured by the Ring doorbell camera, while the other was of the individual riding a skateboard and pointing his machete at a vehicle as it passed.
As of Wednesday morning, Reitinger was not listed on the Tama County inmate roster. The Marshall County Public Defender’s Office has been appointed to represent him, and a no-contact order has been issued between Reitinger and the alleged victim in the harassment case. Hearing and trial details were not available at presstime.
