Two men arrested after police pursuit in Marshalltown
A pair of Marshalltown men were arrested on Thursday morning after allegedly leading police on a chase that ended near the 400 block of Park Street.
According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of South 16th Street at 10:42 a.m. While en route, the reporting party stated a male was chasing a female and then left the scene in a black vehicle. Officers located that vehicle, occupied by two people in the 200 block of South 12th Street. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled, and a short chase ensued. The suspects then fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle near the 400 block of Park Street.
MPD officers and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies searched the area with the help of K9 teams, and both of the suspects were located, taken into custody without incident, and booked into the Marshall County Jail.
Lance Schaum, 34, of Marshalltown, was charged with eluding, a Class D felony, two counts of possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense, each a Class D felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, and 14 traffic violations including speeding, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control device. Luis Gonzale-Cervantes, 47, of Marshalltown, was charged with interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
The MPD was assisted by the MCSO and many local citizens who saw the suspects fleeing on foot and notified law enforcement to assist in the search efforts.
