Historical Society’s Holiday Dinner slated for Dec. 10
In the spirit of the holiday season, the Historical Society of Marshall County (HSMC) Board of Directors invites the public to its annual Holiday Dinner, Dec. 10 at Marshalltown’s historic Binford House.
The social half-hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by the Men’s Chorus Quartet.
“As we enter the holiday season, we extend our gratitude to all who continue to support us through donations of artifacts, financial donations and volunteer efforts,” said HSMC President Dan Brandt.
This year the non-profit organization offered a public tour of six historic county homes, a number of well-attended “History on Second Tuesday” events featuring local businesses such as Lillie Mae’s Chocolates and MARSHALLTOWN Co. Also featured were Marshalltown High School students’ history projects and a presentation on Marshall County ghost towns.
Under the leadership of retired educator Julie Lang of Marshalltown, HSMC continues to maintain the Taylor #4 School in the 10 block of North Second Avenue while offering dozens of re-enactments for hundreds of area elementary school students and educators annually.
HSMC also, in partnership with the state of Iowa, offers tours from Memorial Day through Labor Day annually of the historic Edel Blacksmith Shop in Haverhill.
