Man arrested after pursuit in Marshalltown
A Marshalltown man was arrested Monday after allegedly leading officers on a pursuit from the North 3rd Avenue Casey’s to his residence on Palmer Drive.
According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department, officers located a subject at Casey’s on North 3rd Avenue who had multiple active warrants out for his arrest at approximately 3:29 p.m. A traffic stop was initiated in the 800 block of North 3rd Avenue, and a pursuit ensued.
The subject, 33-year-old Rogelio Sanchez-Sanchez, was able to make it to his residence at 206 Palmer Dr. in Marshalltown and shut the garage door behind him as officers were arriving on scene. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for the residence, and MPD officers and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed the search warrant on the residence for the at 4:59 p.m.
The MCSO K9 Unit was used to search and clear the first floor. MPD officers then deployed an indoor drone and were able to clear the basement before the MCSO K9 Unit was used to clear the basement ahead of officers. No one was located in the basement until the Marshall County K9 Unit alerted on a wall.
Officers discovered a hidden room in the basement and were able to gain access into the room and took the suspect into custody. Sanchez-Sanchez was charged with eluding — second or subsequent offense (a Class C felony), driving while barred (an aggravated misdemeanor), violation of a protective order, warrants for four counts of probation violation and traffic violations.
Sanchez-Sanchez was transported to the Marshall County Jail. The MPD was assisted by the MCSO and UnityPoint Health of Marshalltown. At presstime, he remained in custody.
