Marshalltown man charged with burglary Friday evening
A Marshalltown man has been arrested and charged after officers responded to a report of a burglary in process late Friday evening.
At 11:13 p.m., the Marshalltown Police Department received a call about the incident at 408 E. Linn St., according to a press release. When the first officer arrived on scene, he saw the suspect exiting the garage carrying property.
The suspect, 39-year-old Matthew Allen Sumpter, dropped the property and fled on foot. Following a short foot chase, Sumpter was caught and apprehended. A further investigation revealed that he had no permission to be in the garage.
Sumpter has been charged with third degree burglary and interference with official acts. He was booked into the Marshall County Jail and subsequently bonded out on his charges.
