T-R PHOTO BY ROBERT MAHARRY — The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a blaze at 1404 S. Center St. on Monday afternoon, and an elderly female victim was found deceased inside the home.

An as-yet-unidentified victim has died after a house fire on South Center Street near the Ingledue intersection on Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 1404 S. Center St. for a house fire, according to a press release. Upon arrival, a single family split-level house just south of the Church of Christ was found with a fire in the living room area.

Following the extinguishment of the fire, an elderly female victim was found deceased in the immediate area. MFD personnel then ensured that the fire was sufficiently overhauled and alerted Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) detectives and special agents from the Iowa Arson and Explosives Bureau.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation. The MPD, Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office, Alliant Energy, and UnityPoint EMS assisted at the scene.
