Let it snow!
It may not have been a white Christmas in Marshall County, but the area received about three inches on Thursday morning for the first major snow of 2025. Plows and shovelers alike were busy clearing roads and sidewalks. At presstime, a wreck that injured five people (including three children) along eastbound Highway 30 near Chelsea in Tama County was the only serious crash reported in the T-R coverage area thus far. Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips told the newspaper that drivers had been doing “fairly well” thus far.
“(There were) two disabled vehicles that needed assistance to get back on the roadway and two accidents with property damage only. I anticipate additional (accidents) in the morning hours due to re-freeze and mechanical issues that are typically cold weather related as temperatures drop over the next few days,” Phillips said.
Later Thursday afternoon, Phillips reported a third weather related crash, a rollover on Garwin Road with no injuries.
