Three men arrested in connection with credit card skimming investigation

After officers from the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) successfully removed a credit card skimming device from a gas pump at the West Lincoln Way Casey’s General Store on New Year’s Eve, three men from outside of the state of Iowa have since been arrested on identity theft charges.

Since the investigation began, the MPD has heard from over 30 victims who have reported credit card fraud on their accounts, according to a press release issued late Friday evening.

Their cards have been used at the Marshalltown Walmart and the Git N Go on South Center Street. Using surveillance videos, the MPD developed suspects and arrested three men on Thursday and Friday. Alieski Perez Hernandez, 38, of Florida was arrested for identity theft under $1,500 and third degree theft, both aggravated misdemeanors; Yohannis Bacardi Bague, 30, of Missouri was arrested identity theft over $10,000, first degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card over $10,000, all Class C felonies; and Oscar Rodriguez Alcaraz, 26, of Florida was arrested for identity theft over $10,000, first degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card over $10,000, all Class C felonies.

The press release indicated that the investigation remains active, and more arrests are expected.
