Local man arrested for burglary, going armed with intent

DeJoode

A rural Marshalltown man was arrested by deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on a warrant for several felony charges Thursday evening over allegations that he entered a barn near Gilman without the owner’s permission and assaulted a man while possessing a handgun in the process.

Corey Allen DeJoode, age 34, has been charged with second degree burglary (a Class C felony), going armed with intent (a Class D felony), assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and driving while barred (both aggravated misdemeanors) in connection with that incident, which is alleged to have occurred on Feb. 10. A separate complaint was filed against DeJoode charging him with second degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, for allegedly driving a vehicle into the overhead garage door of an auto shop in Marshalltown and causing an estimated $3,000 in damages.

DeJoode was pulled over and arrested on the warrants near the intersection of Zeller Avenue and 190th Street on Thursday evening and hit with an additional charge of driving while barred, with the criminal complaint alleging that he had open alcoholic beverages in the vehicle.

The defendant is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $35,000 cash only bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m.

Starting at $4.38/week.
