Oklahoma man dies after Feb. 4 accident in Marshalltown

An Oklahoma man has succumbed to injuries he sustained in a crash near the intersection of Iowa Avenue and 18th Avenue last week.

According to a press release, officers from the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to a call for a rear-end collision at the aforementioned location and discovered that pickup truck had collided with the rear end of a semi trailer.

The driver of the semi tractor-trailer was uninjured, and the driver of the pick-up truck, 28-year-old Carlos Hernandez-Caro of Guymon, Okla., was taken to the local UnityPoint Hospital and then transferred to a Des Moines area hospital. He passed away on Feb. 10, 2025. The incident remains under investigation.

“The Marshalltown Police Department sends our condolences to the family of Mr. Hernandez-Caro,” Chief Chris Jones said in the release.
